Policies & procedures change... when we hear of a change, this is where we can share it!
WalMart
October 04, 2011: I had a conversation with Sue M. after attending a class at the Library October 03, she went to WalMart the next day to use a competitors' coupon. She was refused at the checkout and contacted me. I contacted the CSM (customer service manager on duty at WalMart) and asked her to assist me with reviewing the coupon policy about the acceptance of competitor's coupons.
Later that day, I went to WalMart and checked out with the same coupon that Sue had been refused. I had no problem at all. The cashier even knew the policy/procedure (as noted below) and rang up my purchase, showing no coupon on my receipt.
The conversation confirmed:
1. that competitor coupons are accepted at WalMart
2. that the coupon, because it cannot be redeemed by the vendor (example, WalMart cannot obtain money for the coupon and a handling fee from Loblaws or Pharma-Plus Rexall) that WalMart cashiers need to ring it in NOT as a coupon, but as a PRICE MATCH.
3. that a competitor's flyer (example Foodland) for a price PLUS a competitor's coupon (example Loblaw's banner store, coupon zone) CAN BE USED TOGETHER and it is basically double price-matching!
4. that not all cashiers understand or know this policy and may still ring in your competitor coupon as a coupon; but if they understand the policy, then on your WalMart receipt it should ring up as a new price for the item and not show a coupon was used at all.
5. that you are encouraged to call for a CSM to ask for assistance, because a CSM should know the policy!
Be patient, not all cashiers understand the stores' policy & procedures.
