Comment: Hi. I have been looking for the coupon policy for your stores
(Zellers, Bay, etc). I have not been able to locate these and would
like a copy.
Could you please email me a copy of your coupon policy, your price match
policy and if you participate in the Scanning Code of Practice. If you
do not participate in the SCOP, could you please let me know why this is
something your stores have chosen to not participate in.

Dear Ms. McLellan,
Thank you for your email requesting us to email you a copy of coupon
policy, our price match policy and inquiring if we participate in the
Scanning Code of Practice.
The following is the criteria for the acceptance of coupons at our
stores.
The coupon has NOT expired.
The coupon applies to the exact item being purchased (including size
illustrated, regardless of whether it's actually stated on the coupon).
The coupon is valid for redemption in Canada (and not just valid for
redemption in the USA).
The clearing house address is a Canadian address and not American.
The value of the coupon should never result in the customer receiving
the product for free or almost fee.
Note: most vendors generally handle free or almost free scenarios with
'mail in rebates'. In this case, the customer is required to purchase
the item and then render the rebate with their proof of purchase to
obtain a cheque back from the vendor.
There are some important exceptions such as, certain vendors have
declared that they do not post any of their manufacturer coupons on the
internet. Consequently, these vendors reserve the right to inform
retailers that we should not accept any internet coupons for redemption
towards any of their products purchased in our stores. The manufacturer
generally states on the coupon how many can be used and if the coupon
can be combined with any other offers or promotions. If an item is on
promo and if the coupon that is being redeemed does not result in giving
the product for free then the coupon will be honored.
Our price match statement as follows:
?If you find an identical item at a lower advertised price, bring in the
ad and we will match it!
Effective July 08th-14th, 2011 - Legal clarification lines are as
follows:
?Price Match available with proof of current local advertised retail
price for in stock identical items. home electronics, computer and video
game hardware, software and accessories, pre-recorded music & video,
clearances, coupons, rebates, % offers, online offers and misprints do
not apply. We reserve the right to limit quantities.?
HBC and several other major retailers did not opt into the SCOP program
at it's inception, we would like to address a few of the concerns that
you have brought forward. We would first like to assure you that HBC is
firmly committed to consistently looking after the best interests of our
customers as it is in this manner that HBC will build towards a strong
financial future. Over the past year significant capital investments
have been made which will improve our pricing integrity. It is this
investment and long term fix which will contribute to building our
engagement with our customer.
Since the inception of the Voluntary Scanning Code significant steps
have already been made, and although we may not be at a perfect state
one of our commitments to our customer is a prompt and positive response
from our cashier associates when a discrepancy does occur. As indicated
in your communication when the pricing error was identified to the
cashier there was immediate reaction and correction made by the cashier.
This in turn helps to minimize the frustration of the customer.
